So; I'm going to actaully post in here because I feel as though there is alot going on that I just need to let out and it's alot easier to type it then write in a journal. (it that makes sense) As for the title, it was really quiet in school today as a result of "A Day Of Silence." Someone wrote out a page on what it was about and passed them out. It just made me think. The paper said this; Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a National youth movement protesting against the daily harassment, prejuide, and discrimination against students for their race, sexual orientation, and anything else that make make them seem differant. My delleborate silence echoes the silence they are faced with. I believe that ending their silence is the first step toward fighting these injutices. Think about that voices that you are not hearing today." There's a website about it too. It's www.dayofsilence.org I'm not black, I'm not gay/bi/lesbian, but I know that it can hurt to be picked on if you are, so I didn't speak at all today and I was one of the very many. There was about twenty kids in each of my classes who weren't speaking and just the halls themselves were quieter when walking to class. Even our cafeteria was quiet, (not dead quiet) which is saying something. All of this just makes me think and wonder about what's really happening in today's society. It's just horrible to think that people are discriminated like that and it's like being back when we were seperated because someone was black. It just got me thinking. When I first heard of it, I was like "oh, I doubt many people will do it." But, I was surley proved wrong. Anyways, other than that it was a normal day. I gotta go though, time for homework.
